Steamed Wheat Squares (Wheat Idlis / Goduma Rava Idli)

This particular dish is made of broken wheat and is available in any Indian grocery store and is a very healthy dish especially when someone is sick and needs strength and energy.

Dry roast ¼ kg (250 gms) of broken wheat. Add salt,1 cup of curd and enough water to the roasted wheat till you get a paste like batter. Let is sit for half an hour.Add 1 tbsp of grated ginger, 1 tbsp of chopped green chillis, 2 tbsps of chopped coriander leaves, 3 tbsps of grated carrot and 2 tbsp of grated fresh coconut (optional). Heat 1 tsp oil in a pan and add ¼ tsp mustard seeds and let them splutter and add 10 curry leaves ,fry for 10 seconds.Remove from fire. Add this to the wheat-curd batter. Combine well and spread ladle full on idli trays and steam for 15 minutes.Alternately you can steam in a dish and cut into square pieces and serve.

You can have this with any chutney, groundnut / coconut / coriander chutney. The link to my chutney recipes is here.Enjoy this dish. You don’t necessarily have to make it when someone is sick at home. You can make it for breakfast on a weekend or dinner.
